BATTCHAIN-VIKEN

2023 - 2025

The project will connect and mobilize relevant businesses in Viken, clusters, competence centers, academia, partnerships, business associations and municipalities to establish strong collaborative constellations with the goal of competitive value chains and framework conditions related to the development of a profitable upstream and downstream battery value chain in the region.

The aim of the project is to utilize the start-up expertise that Smart Innovation Norway has acquired through the feasibility study from 2022 and assistance in establishing the battery factory HREINN AS over the past year, the Kongsberg environment's experience, projects and expertise on battery packaging (assembly) and the expertise environment around Kjeller on the reuse of used batteries and battery chemistry.

By using the combined lifting power, we will build the way forward through systematic competence, network and relationship building with key players in and around the industry.

Main goal

The project will establish collaborative constellations that create commitment and are able to develop a sustainable supply chain for the battery value chain in Viken. Through collaboration, the project aims to uncover what it takes to succeed in establishing a strong value chain and how to achieve co-creation between the actors.

  • Sub-goal 1: Identify a value chain of competent players who can help to realize the establishment of a strong industry in Viken.
  • Sub-goal 2: Establish a collaboration between several companies that can deliver products/services to this industry.
  • Sub-goal 3: Develop knowledge and share expertise between actors in the value chain, in both technical and commercial innovations, and transfer this to educational institutions.

There are also plans to use the experience gained in the project to develop a tool for the battery value chain based on environmental documentation. In parallel with the project, contact will therefore be established with key suppliers and industry associations to obtain their input for such a tool. The goal is to have a tool available within five years that can document all links in a circular value chain.
