Last week, the BeFlexible consortium gathered in Malm\u00f6, Sweden, for two days of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic discussions.  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The meetings, held on 12\u201313 November and hosted by E.ON Sweden, combined a General Assembly with a rehearsal for Reporting Period 2 (RP2), bringing together partners from across Europe to review progress and align on the project\u2019s final phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing Smart Innovation Norway, Alexandra Alasara (Administrative & Project Coordinator) and Oula Terttunen (Behavioural Scientist) from the Social Innovation team participated in the sessions, contributing the organisation\u2019s expertise in social innovation, customer engagement, and user-centric approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About BeFlexible<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Funded by the European Union, BeFlexible (2022\u20132026) brings together 21 partners from 7 European countries to boost the flexibility of the electricity system by increasing the participation of prosumers \u2014 consumers who both produce and use energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project demonstrates and validates cross-sectoral services and interoperable data platforms through 12 pilots across Italy, Sweden, Spain, and France, aiming to strengthen cooperation between DSOs and TSOs and build new business models that support the energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong momentum toward BeFlexible\u2019s goals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Over the two days, partners shared updates on pilot progress across Europe, exchanged insights on technical integration and regulatory frameworks, and discussed how to accelerate customer engagement and market uptake for energy flexibility solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dedicated workshop explored impact and exploitation pathways \u2014 with a shared goal of ensuring that BeFlexible\u2019s results go beyond the project and make a real-world impact on Europe\u2019s flexibility markets.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cIt was great to work hands-on with our partners again,\u201d says Oula Terttunen, adding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a strong sense of alignment and progress as we approach the final stretch of the project.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connecting technology and people<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Smart Innovation Norway\u2019s recent work within Work Package 5 (WP5) has focused on social and behavioural aspects of flexibility adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behavioural Scientist Terttunen led a qualitative interview study on Swedish energy communities, which provides valuable insights into what motivates prosumers to participate in flexibility markets. The findings were summarised in the project deliverable D5.2, developed in collaboration with E.ON, who leads the work package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis research exemplifies how social science and innovation play a key role in designing solutions that connect technology and people \u2014 helping to ensure that flexibility systems are not only efficient but also widely accepted and adopted,\u201d explains Terttunen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 0 \u2013 building bridges<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of the main consortium meetings, Smart Innovation Norway took the initiative to organise an extra pre-event on Tuesday, 11 November, together with Sustainable Business Hub (SBH) in Malm\u00f6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

The session, hosted at SBH\u2019s offices, brought together BeFlexible partners and local innovation actors for a relaxed and engaging afternoon focused on sustainable energy solutions. SBH presented their ongoing projects related to energy flexibility, local energy systems, and sustainability, sparking fruitful discussions about future collaboration opportunities between the BeFlexible consortium and SBH\u2019s member companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a relaxed, engaging session that helped set the tone for the rest of the week \u2014 with a positive atmosphere, good exchange of ideas, and new connections that could lead to long-term collaboration,\u201d notes Alexandra Alasara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the formal programme, participants continued networking informally in the city, reinforcing the open and collaborative spirit that characterises BeFlexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough our work in BeFlexible, Smart Innovation Norway continues to champion social innovation and user engagement as key enablers of a fair and inclusive green transition. By connecting European research and local innovation ecosystems, the organisation ensures that cutting-edge energy solutions are grounded in real human needs and collaborative action,\u201d concludes Terttunen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
