All of Smart Innovation Norway’s amazing people gathered in Smart Innovation Arena at the company’s headquarters in Halden.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\nFor Terttunen, the gathering was literally new ground, as this was his first time in Halden\u2014and in Norway overall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMeeting colleagues in person and putting names to faces has been great. Working together during the hackathon gave me a real window into how everyone works,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDone is better than perfect\u201d<\/h4>\n\n\n\n The Smart Solutions 24h format\u2014understand, create, choose, and pitch\u2014gave the pair valuable insight into how the organization collaborates under pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019d sum it up with what our COO Mikael Melitshenko said: \u2018Done is better than perfect,\u2019\u201d says Behavioral Scientist Terttunen. He adds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMeeting our technical colleagues up close was especially useful; now I better understand what\u2019s possible from their side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nBehavioral Scientist Oula Terttunen presents his group’s solution on stage alongside his colleague and group member, Energy Systems Researcher Ahmed Samir Hedar.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\nBoukaouit notes the intensive hackathon helped her grasp the wider portfolio quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been intense, but great fun. The past 24 hours really challenges me to think in new paths and see how our technical teams operate up close. I hope we returned the favour by sharing a bit of insight into our world. I\u2019m leaving Halden energised and eager to keep merging both our expertise to co-create unique services and products that solve complex societal challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bridging people and technology<\/h4>\n\n\n\n The kickoff mirrored Smart Innovation Norway\u2019s strategy: Pioneering Nordic innovations for a sustainable future by empowering ecosystems through strong relationships and curious listening. As an independent research and innovation company with teams across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, the organization develops solutions with \u2014 not just for \u2014 end users, focusing on Energy Transition and Applied AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With academic roots in social psychology and human ecology, Social Innovation Developer Boukaouit sees her role aligning tightly with that user-first approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt Smart Innovation Norway, I serve as the bridge between people and technology. Few companies have that link or work the way we do. That\u2019s what sets us apart and gives us a competitive edge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Smart Solutions 24h<\/h4>\n\n\n\n Smart Solutions 24h was Smart Innovation Norway\u2019s company-wide, 24-hour kickoff\/hackathon in September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cross-functional teams received a real challenge from a partner or customer and moved through four fast steps: Understand the problem, create without limits, choose a direction, and pitch like pros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outcome was not a finished product but a clear concept, value proposition, and suggested next steps \u2014 designed to spark concrete services, solutions, or projects while strengthening collaboration across offices and disciplines.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Terttunen\u2019s background is in environmental psychology and the energy sector. He is already applying his expertise in projects, designing workshops and suggesting ways to engage stakeholders and end users in EU projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEnergy is often dominated by engineering and technology\u2014understandably\u2014but perspectives like ours are very important. I\u2019m happy to see there\u2019s demand for this skill set,\u201d he emphasizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The perfect match?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n Both describe an unusually good fit between their skills and the company\u2019s mission of turning research, business development, and collaboration into tangible outcomes for the public sector, industry, and local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a perfect match for my interests, skills, and studies,\u201d says Boukaouit, elaborating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy academic and professional mix is rather uncommon. Finding a company and a role where I can translate my skills into real delivery, while at the same time work on topics I am passionate about \u2013 it\u2019s really the perfect match I would say!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her Finnish colleague agrees fully:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t have said it better. My background is rare\u2014especially combined with energy. It\u2019s a bit of a weird skill set, but valuable. I couldn\u2019t believe my eyes when I saw the opportunity. It\u2019s a perfect match, and I\u2019m very happy to be here and actually do this work,\u201d concludes Terttunen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
